Thinking about becoming a cam performer?

Getting the technology you need to start broadcasting is easier than you might think! Since your entire camming experience hinges on technology, it’s wise to start with the basics and consider upgrades later.

Nothing is more frustrating than having your computer crash or your webcam fail in the middle of a show—trust me on that!

Computer and Internet Connection

The first essential you need is a computer or laptop. Most newer cam models come equipped with everything required for streaming. If you’re using an older laptop, it’s still possible to perform, but aim for at least 256MB of RAM. Be sure to familiarize yourself with your computer’s specifications and experiment with the built-in webcam before you start broadcasting.

High-speed internet is also crucial. You’ll want an upload speed of at least 1.0 Mbps. Connecting directly to your internet via an Ethernet cable is ideal for maintaining a stable stream, but if that’s not an option, you can still make it work!

Webcam and Microphone for Camming

I strongly recommend investing in a Logitech webcam. While you can use your computer’s built-in webcam, streaming in HD will significantly enhance your quality. This not only improves your cover cam photo but also keeps your viewers happy and can attract more of them.

While an external microphone isn’t mandatory, I suggest getting one as you progress. I currently use the Yeti Blue. A good microphone minimizes background noise and ensures your voice comes through clearly, allowing your viewers to fully experience your performance. Your voice is a powerful tool—make sure everyone can hear it!

Lighting During Cam is Key!

Proper lighting is essential for cam. You can set up your space almost anywhere, but if your viewers can’t see you clearly, what’s the point? If you’re on a budget and can’t afford professional lights just yet, I highly recommend utilizing natural light from a window positioned behind your webcam.

With the right technology, including a good computer, webcam, microphone, and lighting, you’ll be well on your way to creating a successful camming experience. Take the time to familiarize yourself with your setup, and don’t hesitate to invest in quality equipment as you grow. Happy camming!
