There are major benefits to masturbation

There are some significant health benefits to orgasms from masturbation, including stress relief, improved mood, better sleep quality, enhanced immune function, and even increased pelvic floor strength.

1.) Stress relief and relaxation

It’s no secret that an orgasm can relieve built-up tension and promote relaxation, and masturbation can be just as effective in achieving this. The release of endorphins during orgasm triggers a feeling of euphoria and relaxation, helping to reduce stress and anxiety. This physical response can ease both mental and physical tension, promoting an overall sense of well-being.

2.) Mood Boosting Pleasure!

Orgasms can significantly improve your mood, largely because they trigger the release of stress and various chemicals in the brain. Men release a mix of norepinephrine, serotonin, oxytocin, vasopressin, nitric oxide, and prolactin, while women release oxytocin and DHEA. (Fun fact: Research is beginning to suggest these chemicals may offer protection against certain cancers and heart disease.) Both men and women experience the release of endorphins during orgasm, and these are responsible for the deep sense of relaxation that follows.

3.) Relief from pain and period cramps

If you’re too shy or not in the mood for period sex but still need relief from brutal menstrual cramps, masturbation might be just what you need. Orgasms can trigger the release of endorphins, which act as powerful natural painkillers that help soothe discomfort and ease muscle tension in the pelvic area. The physical sensations during orgasm increase blood flow to the uterus and surrounding muscles, promoting relaxation and reducing the intensity of cramps.

4.) Masturbation is a great way to explore your body!

If you haven’t had sex yet, or if you’re simply curious about exploring what you like (and what you don’t), masturbation can be a great way to discover your preferences before sharing them with a partner. By getting in touch with your body, you can better understand what feels good, what turns you on, and what doesn’t, which can help you communicate more confidently with your partner. This self-exploration not only enhances your sexual experience but also fosters a deeper connection and understanding of your desires.

5.) Mutual masturbation can be great foreplay and a way to ‘warm’ each other up.

If you’re not using birth control and are relying on family planning to track your cycle, but still want to enjoy orgasms without the risk of pregnancy from intercourse—and you’re not keen on using condoms—masturbation can be a great option. It allows you to experience sexual pleasure without the worry of unintended pregnancy, giving you a safe way to satisfy your desires while staying in control of your reproductive health.

6.) Masturbation is also a way to lower the risk of STIs

Which I know is pretty lame and it doesn’t always beat sex but if you’re single and don’t want to risk sleeping with a potentially risky partner, fix the issue yourself and masturbate.

7.) Believe it or not, masturbation can help improve self-esteem and body image.

This is especially important for people who struggle with those challenges. On a personal level, I can say that masturbation has helped me a lot after a difficult breakup.

Does masturbation become addictive? In my opinion, no more than sex can be.

Can it ruin a relationship? Masturbation is a completely normal part of life. Of course, if it becomes a problem in your relationship, you should talk it through with your partner. But overall, it’s a healthy, natural aspect of sexuality.
